David Chawner has recently returned from the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand where he was co-manager of the chaplaincy programme and chaplain to England.  It wasn’t all plain sailing, but recognition of the importance of chaplaincy for the teams and their support staff as well as the travelling supporters grew during the tournament.

He was part of Engage which, as an organisation, helped churches to engage in the rugby community in a meaningful way during the World Cup.  The hope was that the value they brought to the event would open opportunities for ministry at future World Cups.  Before leaving New Zealand this hope was realised when the CEO of the 2015 World Cup expressed the desire to work with churches to provide this support when the event is held in England (and Wales).

A meeting will be held early in 2012 to discuss how this might happen.  Because of the links we have already established Baptist Men's Movement will be represented.  So watch this space.
